Myrtel & Bo

Let us introduce ourselves: The Myrtel Team!

Lehrer entwickeln für Kinder GmbH & Co. KG (Teachers develop for Children)

The Myrtel Team publishes the "MB-System" – a multi-sensory learning concepts that have proved an overwhelming success in everyday use in primary schools.

The philosophy of "From practice – for practice" is given top priority within the Myrtel development team. Nevertheless, the scientific underpinning of results gained from practice plays a key role in the development work. So far, the Myrtel Team has regarded itself more as a "Think Tank" than as a "normal" publisher of school books. The core concern of its founders is still to give the school day a simpler, livelier and more varied structure for both teachers and children.

A development team that has grown to about 30 people today has developed a multi-sensory building-block system (MB-System) taking the latest scientific research into consideration.

This multi-professional team of authors includes teachers with many years of experience, not only in both primary and special school education, but also in physiotherapy, speech and sensory integration therapy. The team is complemented by experienced musical educationalists, musicians, composers, artists and occupational therapists who advise and support the authors. The result of the development work is new concepts for the primary school that are really child-friendly and tailored to the needs of the students.

This slightly unconventional publishing story began in 2003 when "Myrtel & Bo" was launched as a German-learning concept in a pilot project at twelve schools in Hamburg. Today more than 7000 children at 200 schools throughout Germany are learning with "Myrtel & Bo".

The new mathematics learning concept "Matto the Lugworm" is now carrying this multi-sensory concept into mathematics lessons in primary schools.

And "Murello's Music Circus" offers every aspect of music teaching for primary schools with songbooks, music CDs and qualified training events covering every aspect of primary school music teaching.

Myrtel & Bo – The multi-sensory German learning concept for Years 1 to 5

"Myrtel & Bo" is the established multi-sensory German learning concept for Years 1 to 5, developed according to neuro-pedagogical viewpoints, from the Myrtel Team in Hamburg. The learning concept links language with movement, music and multi-sensory experiences. Schoolchildren experience different ways of learning that correspond to their individual learning type so that children with learning difficulties are assisted while the more able children are challenged.

The colourful caterpillar Myrtel, Bo the magic bird and the wise owl Mira and many other animals from the enchanted forest encourage children to read and write through play. At the same time, the animals live through stories and experiences with which the children can empathise at an emotional level.

Matto, the lugworm – Multi-sensory maths in Year 1

"Matto, the lugworm" is the new multi-sensory mathematics teaching concept from the Myrtel Team. It guides first-year children through the world of mathematics on the basis of experiences and actions. The children experience the number range up to twenty, extend their motor skills and linguistic creativity and gain new knowledge about the "Mudflats" habitat.

Murello's Music Circus – The music program for the primary school

Music and the psychomotor domain have a special significance in the design of multi-sensory building blocks (MB system). In recent years, numerous music modules and training options have been created which offer teachers simple stimuli that are easy to implement.

"Murello's Music Circus" comprises a wide variety of aesthetically designed songbooks, recorder-learning books and a children's yoga book, as well as the associated music CDs. To accompany these resources, the Myrtel Team also offers qualified training courses for teachers without musical qualifications.
